The gate and the season, not the distance
The mileage is the least useful thing to know about this drive. What decides it is the time of year, the traffic at the gate and what the weather is doing at elevation. A trip that is unremarkable in October is a different proposition on a summer weekend or after a storm.

Sometimes, and it is always worth asking. Laboratory work and healing set their own pace, but how many separate trips those stages turn into is often negotiable.
What happens if the road is bad on the day?
Call and say so. Rescheduling is straightforward and much better for everyone than a drive nobody should have made.
