The timing problem nobody plans for

That is not a reason to do nothing. It is a reason to know in advance what actually helps and what does not, and to call the moment the office opens rather than waiting for a convenient time.

What to do while you wait for Monday

Holding measures, not treatment. They keep the situation from getting worse.

  • A knocked-out adult tooth does not wait. Hold it by the crown, rinse it in milk if it is dirty, put it back in the socket if you can and bite on a cloth. If you cannot, keep it in milk. Then find emergency dental or medical care immediately, wherever that is.
  • Keep the area clean. Warm salt water rinses several times a day. A sore tooth still needs to be brushed, gently.
  • Cold on the outside of the face for swelling and comfort, not heat.
  • Stop chewing on that side entirely. A cracked tooth splits further every time it is loaded.
  • Keep any crown or fragment. Do not attempt to glue anything back on. Household adhesives are not safe in a mouth and they ruin the chance of recementing the original.
  • Watch for change. Swelling, fever or pain that is spreading rather than staying put means the situation has moved past waiting.

Vacation is when people put up with things they would deal with immediately at home. A crown that comes off on the second day of a week at the lake is worth one phone call, because recementing it is quick and going without is uncomfortable.

Call and describe the problem. You will be told honestly whether it is something that can be handled here, something that should be stabilized until you get home to your own dentist, or something that needs a hospital instead. Nobody is going to talk you into a course of treatment a long way from your own dentist.

The route from Bass Lake

The lake road climbs away from Highway 41 and loops around the water, so either end of the loop puts you back on the highway. From there it is into Oakhurst and Road 426 branches off in town.
